People use denier nylon to measure the weight or thickness of spun fiber. It also measures durability, yarns and fineness of the fiber filaments of both synthetic and natural materials. Materials high in denier have characteristically thick fibers and materials that contain a small amount of denier have thinner fibers. People use them to make items such as tents, taffeta floors, stockings and other forms of clothing. A person may dye nylon especially when the fabric contains a small amount of denier. When the fibers are thin, the dye easily penetrates each fiber thus making it easier for it to dry. When dying fabrics or materials that have high denier content, one should heat up the dye in order to increase the speed of the dyeing process.

When shopping for fabrics rich in denier nylon, a person may browse the internet to locate online fabric companies that vend them. There are two main classifications of denier nylon namely total denier and filament denier. When fibers measure less than one denier, specialists term it as a micro fiber. Normal nylons that have denier measure about ten micrometers. Designers, those specialize in making pantyhose and tights, use denier to quantify the density of the woven fibers. This assists in determining the elasticity and opaqueness of the fibers or clothing in general. Denier nylon is similar to ‘mommes’, which is a measurement unit for silk density in fabrics. Estimating the denier content in nylon assists one, in making materials that are durable and easy to clean.

Depletion of the denier content in nylon material or fabric may cause the material to appear old. Denier nylon fabrics that have thick fibers are more durable, though they may cost slightly more than those that contain thinner fibers. Items such as shawls, scarves and leggings have strong and thick fibers that make them durable and warm. Denier nylon determines the texture of materials made of nylon thus; fabric-manufacturing companies use it in accordance with the standard procedures. Each classification of nylon materials has a particular texture. When using the correct standard measurements, a person should be able to produce items that have suitable texture, elasticity, firmness and a suitable degree of penetration. Manufacturers have a standard quantification that they use when producing denier nylon.

Many manufacturers use nylon to produce materials such as parachutes, and bulletproof garments. People initially used silk to produce the latter and as time elapsed, they discovered that nylon fibers behaved in a similar manner to silk fibers. This prompted them to start using nylon, silk or a mixture of both in making tents and other waterproof materials. Inferior materials or products in the market may be due to low denier nylon content. To know whether nylon materials are of quality, one should hold them up to compare the weights. Those that are heavier probably have stronger and thicker fibers while those that are lighter might have thinner and weaker fibers. Most, if not all nylon materials, are waterproof and this is why manufacturers make raincoats using this material. Others who use it include fashion designer use it to create unique designs.
